Shied relieves pain and discomfort associated with haemorrhoids.
Shield Rectal Ointment is used for fissures, hemorrhoids, itching or swelling in the rectum and anus, pain caused by anal or rectal problems, intestinal problems, skin irritation and other conditions. Shield Ointment contains such active ingredients as Allantoin, Hydrocortisone Acetate, Lidocaine and Zinc Oxide. Shield Ointment works by reducing skin inflammation, it protects skin and provides a protective coating over damaged tissue preventing the formation, activity and release of different cells and chemicals which cause skin problems.
Take as directed by your doctor or follow the direction printed on the product insert. Dosage is based on your condition. Apply a small amount of the ointment to the affected rectal area as directed. If this is to be used inside the rectum, attach the rectal applicator onto the tube. Insert the applicator gently and to full extent into the rectum. Gently squeeze the tube to deliver the medication while withdrawing it. Rinse the applicator and wash hands after use. For best results, this medication must be used as prescribed usually once in the morning and evening and after each bowel movement.
Use caution when applying lidocaine/hydrocortisone cream over large areas. Caution is advised when using this medicine in children because they may be more sensitive to its effects. Shield Ointment may cause a numbing effect at the application site. Do not scratch, rub or expose the area to extreme hot or cold temperature until the numbness is gone. Do not use more medicine, apply more often or use for longer than prescribed.
Shield Rectal Ointment should not be used if you have allergic reactions, animal bites, deep or puncture wound, mifepristone, open wounds or damaged areas. Also children under the age of 12 are not recommneded to use this medicine. Do not use Shield Ointment if you have a tuberculous or fungal infection of the skin, a herpes simplex skin infection, or a skin infection following smallpox vaccination.
Possible side effect
Possible side effects that may occur from all constituting ingredients of Shield Rectal Ointment are swelling of the mouth, difficulty in breathing, rashes on tongue or lips, hives and dermatitis.
Shield Ointment may interact with such drugs as Amphotericin B, Atracurium, Amprenavir, Alcuronium, Carbamazepine and Cimetidine.
Take the missed dose as soon as possible. Skip the missed dose if it is time for your next scheduled dose. Do not take extra medicine to make up the missed dose.
Overdose is not expected. Taking more medication will not improve your symptoms. If you consider that you took too much of this medicine inform your doctor.
Store medicines at room temperature, away from heat and direct light. Do not freeze medicines unless required by package insert. Keep medicines away from children and pets.
